Guest Tips
For the best experience, travel just like a "Thai Package Tour" traveler. Almost all customers book the package with full board meals included plus one big seafood dinner and also activities such as this boat trip included in the package. This is indeed real value for money. The seafood dinner comprises mostly grilled prawns, crabs, and squid(lots of them) served with spicy "Nam Jim Seafood" sauce-all you can eat! If you are only booking a room, you may find higher prices on the a la carte menu and an atmosphere that seems to be less happening.
The selection of rooms matters a lot to comfort. Loft Villas are nice and also very popular in groups, but the sleeping area is mostly found on a mezzanine level accessible by either a steep ladder or stairs. Great fun for kids, it’s a nightmare for anyone with bad knees or midnight bathroom trips. If mobility is an issue, specifically request a single-story villa. Try and get a room far from the main karaoke area or central stage if the resort is hosting some large tour group because evening entertainment noise which can be quite loud continues till about 10:00 or 11:00 PM.
And, get ready for the bugs. The mangroves are stunning but this is where mosquitoes and sandflies love to breed. The resort usually fogs the area but it’s never 100% effective. Bring a lot of DEET-based repellent, long sleeves/pants at sunset and maybe even a portable electric mosquito racket for your room. Also if you’re there during fruit season buy some mangosteens from the roadside stalls – they’re known as “Queen of Fruits” extremely sweet in this region and cheap! Just don’t bring Durian into your room (it’s forbidden because of its smell); eat it at one of those outdoor areas dedicated to that purpose.
